If you and your spouse cant agree on the firmness of mattress you like best for sleeping, this might be a good item to try before having to buy a new mattress (also the cheapest way to try out latex and see if you like it as sleep system). I love a soft mattress with some support best, but hubby loved an extra firm hard as a rock cheap mattress (and since he has a super bad back--slipping spine n some curvature issues--we have been sleeping on his choice of mattress). So I who used to sleep sound through an entire night and wake up in morning wanting to snuggle into bed and get some extra sleep (could sleep 9-12 hours straight depending on how tired I was when going to bed), I was waking up to toss and turn what felt like every 10-20min from severe lower back pain, hip pain, and even arm/shoulder pain on his too firm mattress throughout every night on it...in fact the longer I tried to sleep on it the worse the pain and tossing became (every morning waking up too early, in major lower back pain, and had to get out of bed to stop the pain asap). So I researched and researched (over a week of research). I am only 5'4" and about 305lbs, hubby is 5'5" and only 175lbs...so that meant any memory foam thick enough for me not to sink straight to mattress would be too thick for him with no support for his back. Plus I am a furnace at night anyway and we prefer it cool when sleeping. I also prefer sleeping on my sides and stomach and never my back, he prefers sleeping on his back almost always and little bit of side. I had read many who reaffirmed that this 2" latex was as good as 3" memory foam (though by specs I would of needed 4-5" at least memory foam), plus read how it was natural and would outlast and outperform memory foam, and with 2 different firmness sides decided this latex topper might be the perfect solution for us (also saw some saying it was firmer than expected so decided to try the soft one even though I was afraid it might let me sink straight through it to mattress---it doesn't, maybe halfway idk but definitely not all the way and not a feeling of being enveloped or stuck in a hole like many memory foam users talk about. Though this is as firm as I would want, any firmer and it would be too firm for me). I knew I needed something much softer than the hard mattress to feel good, but hubby was afraid he wouldn't feel the firmness of his mattress and have trouble falling asleep (he says it still feels firm to him but now comfortable too, and he is sleeping way better). We got this super fast! It came the same week it was ordered (a monday night) before the weekend (got on friday). It was perfect condition, all clean all in tact, perfect straight cut sides that once out of packaging for only a tiny bit was perfect size for queen bed. It fluffed up to 2in thick for sure, havent measured it with ruler (may even be slightly thicker than 2in). It is pure latex, no layers of anything else, and it does have a soft n firm side which means it is all natural latex. I have tried both the soft (20 min) and firm side (sleeping on that side since we got it 5 days ago) to see if my 300lb self would sink straight through it, and it holds me aloft like a cloud on both firmness sides. Even after an entire night sleeping on it, it still holds me aloft completely with just a tiny bit of conforming (softer side when tried conforms a bit more and I sink a bit more into it but it also keeps me aloft not sinking to the hard mattress underneath), and it bounces straight back to its full 2in as soon as I move any body part off any area (makes it easier to move on than any of the memory foams I read about would of done). It sleeps as cool as our hard mattress if not a bit cooler than it, and when I am a furnace at night I was worried about it being too hot but the soft topper has nice large sized holes in it that must make it less heat holding than a regular mattress (we use a thick 1/4-1/2in 100% cotton mattress pad (not pillow top, more like a horizontol channel set quilted top, plus our 300 thread count damask cotton sheet set).As far as our sleep goes on this topper, our sleep has improved nearly 100% for both of us. Which we both found amazing with how different we are in size and in sleep preferences. It feels as firm if not a tiny bit firmer to him than our hard as rocks mattress underneath, but he says it also feels softer to him too (which he finds hard to explain--like a cushioning firmness of support). To me it feels softer than the hard as rocks mattress and it feels like it has good support that stays at the same level from first laying down as it does after an entire night of sleep. So now both of us wake up feeling better than we did when we laid down to go to sleep, which until my hubby slept on this topper he didn't realize his too hard nonsoft mattress was what made him feel more back pain in the morning than at night, now he doesnt wake with any back pain and neither do I. He doesnt get numb arms sleeping on this topper unlike before. My hips no longer hurt when side sleeping, my lower back no longer hurts, my hip area doesnt go numb anymore at anytime at night, shoulders n neck no longer hurt during sleep or day, and I no longer wake up all night long to toss n turn. We both now sleep all through the night and enjoy snuggling in bed longer in the mornings. Hubby discovered he isn't a light sleeper afterall, now he sleeps so deep and sound I can get up, go in and out of room, turn lights on and he sleeps though it all totally oblivious.Bottom line: Way worth the money! This is the best choice we could of ever gotten for our very different bodies and sleep preferences. We both sleep on a supportive firm cloud of coolness. Our sleep has improved drastically with just these 2" over our hard cheap mattress. It is so supportive that it makes the firmness feel more firm than it would in other materials, so if like me you prefer soft mattress and ur partner wants firm I do suggest you try out this softest one first (especially if your current bed is too firm/hard). I would still love it a bit softer than the soft side of this soft mattress topper if support/cloud wasn't lost any, and even my hubby who loves firm says he could probably sleep on one a bit softer too; but as long as it is working awesome for both us on the firm side then we will stick with that till next weekend (then we will try the softer side a few days and I will update this).
