I built this bed for my 2 1/2 yr old as his new big boy bed. And when I mean built I mean built from scratch, you get boards of wood and screws to place. You will need screwdriver to screw in 24 screws into 12 slats, I like to say it all went smoothly but it didn't, the beginning stages were very easy, the parts I had a problem with were screwing in the 12 wooden slats by hand because they recommend not using a drill at all because it might damage the wood. Took a lot of strength to screw in and I'm a tough strong girl and I'm the one that put together all my furniture in the house not my husband, this took work, 20 out of the 24 screws didn't give me that much trouble but 4 did not screw in all the way no matter what I did, I think it was the wood, but I did manage to get them in at least more than half way and it hasn't fallen apart yet. My son weighs 40lbs and I'm 7 months pregnant, we have both laid in the bed without any breaks or mishaps. Once assembled it looks great, fits great in my son's small room that he will be sharing with a new baby soon. Color is lighter than picture shown but still very nice. Delivery came promptly, no issues there. All in all I'm happy with my purchase and so is my son, he sleeps great in it! It's low enough for him to climb up and down and has enough room underneath for storage bins.I bought two of these for my three-year-old twins. For the price, I'm satisfied. They look nice and seem sturdy and comfortable. I've assembled a lot of furniture, and while attaching the slats was tedious and the whole thing was time-consuming, it wasn't terribly difficult. My only real issue is that I thought that these were fairly low beds, but they're not. They're actually higher than my bed. With only an 8" mattress, both of the kids can barely scramble up onto them. I thought about sawing a few inches off the legs, but the kids can manage and will only grow taller, so I left it alone. One other note: these beds sometimes sold by "Moshya Home Furnishings" and sometimes by other vendors. While we did ultimately receive the beds in good condition, there were problems with the shipping, and I would steer clear of Moshya if you have another option.5/8/14 - I'm editing this review and downgrading from four to two stars. We've had these beds for about five months and both are not holding up particularly well. A slat in one of the beds snapped in two in the first month, and the crescent-shaped metal doo-hickeys that are supposed to hold the bolts that attach the head board to the frame pretty much disintigrated on one side of the other bed causing the whole thing to start to fall apart. There's nothing to hold the bolts in now. I have the bed braced against the wall and we're hoping to find some sort of alternate hardware that will work. But we shouldn't have to be jerry-rigging a five-month-old bed. The child who sleeps on this bed only weighs 30 lbs. She's not that rough on it, and I'm grateful I noticed the problem before it fell apart on her.So I just received my product a few days ago and currently have it all put together. When it arrived I was so excited to open the package because the previous reviews for this product had been fairly well. I can honestly say that I was a bit disappointed. I love the espresso color, but it is too light and somewhat looks a bit like cherry. I am fine with the color, though it was not what I expected. I hated the ugly slats and the tiny spaces between the frame and my mattress...I still cannot judge the sturdiness, but it does seem to be doing well so far. As far as the instructions were, they were fairly simple and with two people assembly only took around an hour. I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for affordable furniture :)I bought this bed for my 2-year-old as a crib replacement. It would work fine as a smallish adult bed as well-I can sleep on it comfortably myself. It is all solid wood, well packaged to avoid scratches and dents, and includes everything you need to assemble it. I ran out of the included glue and had to add some Elmer's of my own, but that was likely a result of poor planning and over usage on my part.I am only knocking a star off because the hex bolts that hold the bed together are not all that pretty, and are not hidden. If they were brass, or if they were recessed and covered with some kind of peg or plug, the bed would be a little bit nicer looking. But honestly, I am not sure this merits knocking a whole star off. It's an excellent purchase. We purchased this bed for our 2 yr old son as his toddler bed was getting much too small for him. This bed works perfect for him. It was very easy to assemble, i had no problems at all except for a couple holes that were a bit tight for the bolts but my husband tightened them down the rest of the way for me. The bed looks really nice and i also like that the wood doesn't have really sharp edges, they are a bit more rounded. For those who are considering getting this bed for a toddler or young child like we did and you are looking for a side rail to accompany this bed, there is a side rail from Ikea that we purchased that is made of wood and is only $12 and it works perfectly with this bed. I just couldn't bring myself to getting one of those fabric side rails for $50 and we found the Ikea one and its awesome ! All in all i would def recommend this bed to others it is pretty sturdy (my husband and i lay on it with our son) and its a good value
